The Beauty of Snail Mail

Letters are a Beautiful Thing

I haven't blogged for a hot second, but today I am witting about something I have wanted to write about for a while.
There is something so special about snail mail. This is something always been passionate, but I recently ended up across the country with limited access to cell phone service. I went a while without talking to my friends and family last summer when I was at Young Life Camp in Oregon, but I was in a familiar place with familiar people.
I am working for WinShape Camps for Girls at Young Harris in Georgia. This means I don't have access to my phone during the week. Some days are great, but other days the homesickness kicks in.
Even though I don't have much time to talk to my friends and family on the phone, there is something so special about writing and receiving letters from someone I really care about.
About a week ago I received a package from a dear friend. In that package were seven notes, one for each day of the week. I read the letters through the week this week and wrote her back each day. She water color painted the letters to make them extra pretty. There was even a tic-tac-toe game, for us to send back and forth and a place to send prayer requests to each other.  Today I packaged them all up and mailed them in my off time, along with a letter to another special friend.

I hung each letter on my wall in my dorm, to remind me I am loved.
Leah and I have known each other for a short time, yet I feel like I have known her forever. Leah and I don't even live in the same state, but she is one of my close friends. In a few short months we will live very close to each other and for that I am very excited. God continues to use her to remind me I am so loved.
Letters are so special to me. In my room at home I have two cork board covered in letters and notes. I call it "My Wall of Friendship." Whether you are a camp friend or my grandma and you have wrote me a letter in the past year you are on there.
There is so much beauty in writing and receiving letters. It may be a lost art some people, but to me it is a way of life.
A letter is a way to pour your heart out onto a page someone can keep forever. It does not have to be a book to show someone you care. I encourage you to try it sometime.
I am so, very thankful for letters and all my pen pals.
