Three Years Down Look At Me Now

“Look at the nations and watch—
    and be utterly amazed.
For I am going to do something in your days
    that you would not believe,
    even if you were told."
Habakkuk 1:5

There is a beautiful organization out there called Young Life and three years ago today is the day that I began my journey in it. I did not always think YL was as cool as I do now. In high school I went to youth group and some people in my youth group looked down on Young Life so I also made the assumption that it was for the pretend Christian. The rumor was that it was for the "I party, but my parents don't know' kid.

Going into my senior year I spent some time on a Young Life camp property, where I met some really cool people who were involved in Young Life. I wanted to try it, but I was told not to go. I am so glad I went behind everyones back and did because I fell so in love with Young Life.

I remember my first club like it was yesterday. It was movie club. I got there and I didn't know if I should knock or what. I was so awkward, but that changed when I saw some of my swimmer friends were there. My leaders and friends welcomed my awkward self with so much love.

At the beginning of the school year I messaged Chyann a girl I went to elementary school with, who I knew did Young Life asking for details. Then on September 7, 2014 she messaged me telling there was club the next day. I was excited and nervous all at the same time. After club I could not wait to go back. It was so cool. There were no popular kids, we were all the same.

Young Life is such a welcoming place! Wherever Young Life people are there is so much encouragement, community, and support.

Not only did the Instagram messages between Chyann and I open the door to my Young LIfe journey, but it opened the door to our wonderful friendship. She and I talk and encourage each other. We are both doing Kingdom work in the way God has sent us.

I never thought I would go to Young Life, and I definitely never thought I would start and be a team leader for Young Life College.

"Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails."
Proverbs 19:21

I a so thankful for the plans God has for my life. His plans are more than I could ever imagine, but they are amazing. He knows exactly where he needs me.
